Siggi’s Farm

Brand designer

Adobe Suite • Procreate • Pencil & paper
Siggi’s Farm is a cooperative farm based in North Cowichan, British Columbia. Since 2021, they’ve been (literally) starting from the ground up, raising market lamb and growing award-winning flowers. In 2024, Jess & Cait approached me to develop a brand identity that could clearly identify their fine goods at country fairs and market stands while celebrating the namesake of their business; their beautiful dog, Siggi.
A comprehensive style guide
Together, we defined a style guide that serves as the source of truth for the brand identity. From colour use, to logo construction, to fonts and photography, all aspects of the brand are covered in detail. It’s not just the how, it’s also the why. It’s all well and good to know what colours to use, but to know when it’s the right time to use which colours requires a strategy. The style guide provides a map for an effective and consistent strategy.
A scalable logo system
In our initial discovery talks, Jess & Cait described wanting a highly detailed logo featuring Siggi’s happy face, their farmhouse, plants, and views of Mt. Prevost. While this would be much too detailed for most practical applications, we loved the initial sketches so much that we decided to explore a logo system with a few different sizes. One, a primary lockup, the default logo with an appropriate level of detail to use in most circumstances. Then additionally, a much simpler variation for very small applications, and a much more detailed variation for very large applications.
While brand recognizability is certainly optimized by having one, simple and crisp mark that can be easily read at small and large sizes, Siggi’s Farm is more soulful than that.
Flexible levels of expression
There are moments to be serious, and moments to let loose and have some fun! We developed coloured variations on each lockup for use in contexts where higher levels of expression are appropriate, like on stickers and t-shirts intended for marketing purposes.
The human process
Following our discovery sessions, initial sketches were first roughly hand-drawn in Procreate. After feedback, I made more polished “inked” versions. With these approaches approved, the work moved over to Adobe Illustrator, where vector files were crafted and further refined until final assets are checked, re-checked and shipped.
